Bug ID: 501444 Summary: Clicking on the parent folder in the location bar doesn't pre-select the current (previous) folder Classification: Applications Product: dolphin Version: 24.12.2 Platform: Debian unstable OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: bars: location Assignee: dolphin-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: ilikef...@waterisgone.com CC: kfm-de...@kde.org Target Milestone: --- Created attachment 179368 --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=179368&action=edit Here is where I click to go back the the parent's folder and see the current folder from outside SUMMARY Clicking on the parent folder in the location bar doesn't pre-select the current (previous) folder STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Create a folder in /tmp 2. Enter in it. 3. Click on the 'tmp' part of the location bar / path (the one between this > and this >). OBSERVED RESULT 1.Clicking on that part of the location bar, which is one place to the left from the current folder means that it's the parent of the current folder and should bring you to the view of the parent folder's content and it does. 2.It should also pre-select the folder you previusly were in, as it similar to just pressing the 'Back' or 'Up' button to move around in hierarchy. EXPECTED RESULT 1. This works as expected. 2. This doesn't work as expected as the folder is not pre-selected. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux (Debian 13 - unstable repository)/KDE Plasma: KDE Plasma Version: 6.3.2 KDE Frameworks Version: 6.11.0 Qt Version: 6.8.2 Kernel Version: 6.12.17-amd64 (64-bit) Mesa Version: 25.0.0-1 Graphics Platform: Wayland HARDWARE SPECIFICATIONS Hardware: Laptop Dell Inspiron 5770 (17" 1080p@60Hz screen) CPU: Intel® Core™ i5-8250U CPU @ 1.60GHz GPU 1: Intel® UHD Graphics 620 (main, Vulkan capable) GPU 2: AMD Radeon R5 M465 Series RAM: 8 GiB (7.7 GiB usable) ADDITIONAL INFORMATION To be more clear what I wanted to do and it didn't work out as I expected: I wanted to help a bit with the triage and confirming of bug reports and I had to create a 'demo' folder in /tmp and a few files in it for this bug report: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=501432 After I've done my test and wrote a comment on that report with my findindings, I decided to clean the folder and files that I created, for which the easiest and the fastest would be to just delete the folder. For whatever reason I preferred to click on the parent of the current folder in the location bar, knowing that it will get me into the parent folder and will pre-select the folder what was previously in, since they're just 1-level difference between them and since it's pre-selected I can just delete it, either by pressing the 'DEL' key or from the context menu as it's easy to see in which folder I was since it's pre-selected. The fact that this doesn't work and breaks my workflow for cleaning up my filesystem of folders that I temporarily created, it means that it breaks my workflow also for copying the copying / moving the current folder, as for both deleting current folders and for copying / moving current folders, I prefer to click on the parent's part in the location bar to go the the parent's view and do the delete / copy / move from the outside of the current folder. It's also mandatory to go the the parent's view because there is no Delete (Move to trash) / Copy / Move where you are in the folder you want to apply these actions to as they are missing from the contextual menu. So, for me the fact that the current folder is not pre-selected when I go to the parent's view makes me not know in which folder I was (as there's no other hint for that) and probably if the parent folder has many folders inside, also the autoscroll to position of the folder I was previously in. I don't think autoscroll works if a folders is not pre-selected and even if it does, it would still take a while to see without any hint which is the one for which the view was scrolled, if you remember the folder's name. And these are besides the fact that the delete, copy, move now don't work as easy. On Windows 7, that was released in 2009 I never had these problems as everything worked as expected. And I think never had these problems in Plasma too for many years, so I don't know what changed but this is very annoying and makes me lose time. Could possibly make me also delete other folders than the one that I intended if I don't remember in which folder I was when I go to the parent's folder to delete the current folder. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
