On Kubuntu, I can confirm that Balena Etcher, for example, produces an error when run via cli, and fails silently when run via Dolphin It's possible that Dolphin could have a handler for .AppImage files, maybe as a plugin, that could catch errors and bubble them up to the user The error would be up to the distro / user to handle, but having something would be better than silent failure.
