No, I can't upgrade. As I said, the version that I have is the latest
available for my distribution. Qt6 is currently problematic anyway: it requires
a library update which breaks other code. Can I downgrade to the version that
was released with openSUSE Leap 15.5, which I was much happier with? The
visible selection rectangle worked much better for me.

Thanks for the bug report! Unfortunately this version is out of support from
KDE. Can you upgrade to a version that uses Qt6 and see if the issue happens
there as well?
