Yesterday, when all of a sudden kwin started crashing, quite a few packages were updated, but some Qt5 packages (qt5-qtquickcontrols, qt5-qtdeclarative, qt5-qtwebkit) were missing dependencies. So Qt wasn't all the same version. Although version differed only a minor number (eg 4.7.0 vs 4.7.1, iirc), there probably was some binary incompatibility. Today I upgraded these last packages and KDE starts up normally. At this moment desktop effects are not working for some reason, but that's a different thing.
