I'll give that a go asap

I've had a look at the critical bugs and it dont seem to provide anything
useful to the issues I'm having.

I did use Bulk Crap Uninstaller to uninstall kdenlive and removed a bunch of
left over files on my 3rd uninstall so that could have done something:
https://github.com/Klocman/Bulk-Crap-Uninstaller

I am also using windows 10 enterprise and I did a bunch of wack regedits and
customisations so I may have screwed my OS in some way that caused the new
versions of kdenlive to bug out (but everything else is fine and the old
version works)

Unless it's because I have a separate ffmpeg install? like i have an install in
C:\FFmpeg and that's on my system path and then I have the ffmpeg that comes
with kdenlive but i never put it on my path

Also I use python in conda environments so it's not properly installed on my
system if that might affect anything

Just giving as much info as I can incase that hints to any possible solution

I really want to continue using kdenlive, for now (until I refresh my OS or
eventually switch to linux for most things) I don't mind using an older
version. The kdenlive FFmpeg integration, the UI and the customisability of
everything is so sweet that I cannot go back :')

I've tried other products and the amount of hassle you have to go through to
support non-standard formats and things is crazy.
