The bug is reproducible and is related to switching the screen off due to power
saving settings. When the screen is turned off after the specified time, the
windows disappear but the background is left. Setting the screen to be always
on avoids the problem.
A possibly related bug is when you attempt to Suspend/Power Off the machine via
the Desktop, the windows blur and then the machine hangs. Switching to a
different virtual terminal still works and I can shutdown the laptop from
there.
