KMail's version here on Gentoo is 24.08.3. So I'm not sure which version to
pick above …
SUMMARY
KMail doesn't show inline images in HTML emails in the message preview, not
even for messages created with KMail itself.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Write a HTML email
2. Add an inline image
3. Send it to yourself
4. Click on it in the message list
5. If not done by default, switch to the HTML view
OBSERVED RESULT
The message lacks the image
EXPECTED RESULT
To see the image, obviously :-)

Linux/KDE Plasma: Gentoo
KDE Plasma Version: 6.2.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.7.0
Qt Version: 6.8.1
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The image is shown when the message is opened in an extra window – but not in
the preview. I'll attach some screen shots.
