There are two possibilities, either the bug has been solved long ago (symlinks
have the same opening treatment as regular folders) ; either he was talking
about opening the targeted place of the link with the context menu (which is
actually opened in a new window instead of a new tab) and for that there is Bug
406775 to get that option.
