Any application that uses it will follow KColorSchemeWatcher (which uses the XDG spec on Linux) outside of Plasma, not the color scheme set in systemsettings app. If the DE you use doesn't support it, those apps won't switch to dark mode automatically but you still can switch the color scheme inside the app. If the app in question doesn't have color scheme switcher, you can request it.
