Thanks, it turns out that either this workaround or one of the ones mentioned earlier did actually work. I didn't realize this because it takes about 30 seconds before NumLock turns itself on - plenty of time for me to think it failed and turn it on manually (not a great test on my part). Just for the sake of documenting, here's the behaviour I'm noticing now: **From boot** - GRUB2 loads. Numlock is *on* - GDM loads. Numlock is *on* - Enter password in GDM and Numlock turns *off* - Plasmashell splashscreen. Numlock remains *off* - Autostart apps open up, Numlock still *off*.
