Plasma 6.2 has some known bugs with keeping the list of displays in the
brightness applet updated in certain scenarios. If your issue is fixed by
restarting the applet (or `systemctl --user restart plasma-plasmashell`, to
avoid messing with the panel config) then that's good news, because Plasma 6.3
has fixes for all of the known applet updating bugs:

We didn't backport those to 6.2 because they're somewhat more intrusive and
wanted to stay on the side of "no unintentional regressions elsewhere". If the
brightness key on your keyboard (or an equivalent assigned shortcut) is still
working even after the applet loses certain display functionality, you know
that you've got an applet bug on your hands.

Plasma 6.3 Beta 1 is coming out in early January and the 6.3.0 a month later,
which should at least put those applet bugs to rest. I'm less confident about
bugs related to the daemon side of things (using ddcutil). Please retest and
keep us updated when you receive new versions of Plasma and/or ddcutil
releases. Thanks!
