Plasma 6.2 has some known bugs with keeping the list of displays in the brightness applet updated in certain scenarios. If the brightness key on your keyboard (or an equivalent assigned shortcut) is still working even after the applet loses certain display functionality, you know that you've got an applet bug on your hands. Plasma 6.3 Beta 1 is coming out in early January and the 6.3.0 a month later, which should at least put those applet bugs to rest. I'm less confident about bugs related to the daemon side of things (using ddcutil). Please retest and keep us updated when you receive new versions of Plasma and/or ddcutil releases.
