I assume it depends on the workflow of users whether they prefer having split view mode within each tab or tabs within each split. For example the current state works well when a user uses tabs to keep distinctly separate tasks organised. They would not need to mix and match the various split view tabs then. So just replacing the current behaviour with what is requested here is IMO likely to not be the correct way to proceed. Given all that and considering that Dolphin is supposed to be simple by default, I am not sure what should best result from this bug report.
