One side has bold text and has very lightly shaded alternating rows. There is an fairly arbitrary change in the icon. I can't tell which side it's instructing me will close if I click it. I see the scroll bar changes colour too, but I don't register it. Che current design makes me have to think about what is going to happen when I hit the close button.
