            Bug ID: 497533
Summary: Ability to Proxy or Cache Full Sequences
    Classification: Applications
           Product: kdenlive
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: Ubuntu
                OS: Linux
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: wishlist
          Priority: NOR
         Component: Timeline & Editing
          Assignee: j...@kdenlive.org
          Reporter: onther...@yahoo.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

KDENLive still suffers from extreme stuttering and lag in my use case, where I
tend to nest sequences only a couple levels deep with minimal transform effects
applied. Currently, my solution is to manually render an entire sequence to an
external proxy file, then import it back into the project, so it may be nested
in another sequence.

It would be great if instead, there could be an option to automatically
generate proxy files for entire sequences in the background. As an alternative,
maybe the sequences themselves could be cached similarly to timeline preview,
but with that cached preview utilized when nesting the sequence.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Create a couple sequences containing AV synced footage clips
2. Nest the footage sequences into new sequences, with effects such as
transform, transparency, etc
3. Further nest the #2 sequences into new sequence, such as a scene-switching
sequence
4. Further nest the #3 sequence into an "edits" sequence, to remove dead air
and bloopers and things

OBSERVED RESULT
Note that KDENLive slows to an absolute crawl early on in this process, unless
proxy files are manually generated for sequences.

EXPECTED RESULT
KDENLive should automatically proxy or cache nested sequences such that the
"edits" (#4) sequence does not need to process live effects, but instead rely
on proxied or cached results, thereby remaining very fast for editing.
