Bug ID: 497027 Summary: I cannot install Nvidia driver for my Nvidia Gigabyte GeForce GT 730 Classification: KDE Neon Product: neon Version: unspecified Platform: Neon OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Keywords: wayland Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: neon-b...@kde.org Reporter: fahmy.kha...@gmail.com CC: carlosd....@gmail.com, j...@jriddell.org, neon-b...@kde.org Target Milestone: --- *** I have a bug for about 1 year now! I cannot install Nvidia driver for my Nvidia Gigabyte GeForce GT 730, the right driver that supposed to work is proprietary 470 but since Plasma 6 upgrade when I install the driver it boots and loads a black screen that never change and I have to load safe/rescue/recovery and open bash and uninstall anything *nvidia* and use nouveau with X11, and the only problem why I can't keep using nouveau is it doesn't show gray lines or whatever gray it shows it white instead! Can't find a solution! Am I must buy a new VGA Card? *** SUMMARY Black screen after installing Nvidia proprietary driver 470 the recommended one. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Install software-properties-qt. 2. Go to Additional Drivers tab and choose proprietary driver 470 and apply. 3. Restart OS as requested to boot to black screen that never change. OBSERVED RESULT Failure loading KDE Login screen showing a black screen instead. EXPECTED RESULT If the driver install was working it would open the login screen so I can choose Wayland or X11 and login!
