Thank you. That is what I was trying to figure out.
If I understand correctly, closing an application and then switching to a TTY
and back causes Xorg to release the xserver memory used for that application.
If memory leaks remain afterwards, then this indicates issues with the xorg
driver and the compositor (kwin_x11 in your case).
