your description of the error/failure is quite broad. Please file an issue to the package and provide details. I'm not a OSX user (and also not pyplot), but recently it looked like the main problems (of packages of this style) are in the area of interactions between OSX and the python packaging/distribution mechanism(s) (Conda, Ananconda, brew etc.). So actually the situation is different at every computer, because it contains the history of all (re-)configurations.
