Assume that the current timestamp is at 100th ms and the user configured retention time is to keep the data for 12 ms. Then, the current code deletes the segment when segment's maxTimestamp <= 88 which is valid. KAFKA-16385 filed around segment rollover and deletion. Deleting the segment after exact retention time or after retention time + 1 ms delay both looks valid to me.
