This is most likely a bug in NVidia's OpenGL implementation. They don't have a public bug-tracker (not even an unofficial one like ATI), so the only possible way to report bugs are there linux discussion forums: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=14

Does its also crash with -Dsun.java2d.opengl.fbobject=false? > Option > "AccelMethod" "XAA" has the same effect (I'm not sure > that NVidia driver really use this option).
