Dear users,

On November, 29th was JabRef's 12th anniversary. We want to celebrate
that and let you know four things:

1. JabCon
We are working hard to make JabRef even more useful than it is
already. To attract even more developers, we launched JabCon. It will
take place end of January in Vienna, Austria. Feel free to
participate. Please find more details and registration information at
http://jabcon.jabref.org/.

2. Making available development versions
We are trying to stabilize the development. All versions built on the
master branch can be regarded as beta versions. Everyone who wants to
have a sneak preview on whats going on or simply wants to know whether
a bug is already fixed should go to http://builds.jabref.org/master/
and download the latest version.

3. Seeking for support
We really need more support in JabRef development and maintenance. We
are moving more and more away from sourceforge, but progress is slow
because there are so many other things to do. An initial new homepage
has been created at http://www.jabref.org, but it really needs to be
extended and the content of the old homepage integrated. We need help
with that. See especially https://github.com/JabRef/jabref/issues/111

4. Release of JabRef 3.0
We worked hard to make JabRef 3.0 ready for today. Not everything is
finished and many new bugs appear. JabRef still has much legacy code.
We are migrating the code to Java 8 and try to remove as much issues
as possible, but we don't have enough man power to address everything.
Nevertheless, this release makes a new landmark in the development of
JabRef. We plan to release JabRef more often than in the past to offer
users early access to new features.

Sometimes, we mentioned version 2.80. This version was intended as
intermediate step to JabRef 3.0. Since much functionality has changed
during development, a release of this version was skipped. We will
proceed with minor steps and currently plan a big v4.0 release at the
end of next year.

Feel free to download via https://github.com/JabRef/jabref/releases and comment.

Cheers,

Oliver
