I am thinking about the process of adding new entries, which I do by, say, dragging a PDF, so I can immediately review the bibtex entry, etc. When I drag and drop PDFs I am actually offered a range of options; one is to rename the file (by key) but the others allow me to keep the original name of the file (and even the original directory location of the file), and the complete path is then placed, correctly, in the "File" field. And I can modify the name of the file so that I prepend a directory name. Once I have an entry, I can attach other files by right-clicking on the entry and choosing "Attach file" which is awesome, and allows me to choose things from wherever they are in the filesystem. And I can edit the link so even if the file is originally in directory A, I can say that the link be to directory B (and then move the file there). So actually, I do not need to rename things, as I can add them at will with whichever name they have and wherever they are and create a link to wherever I want. This is awesome. However, my question was if there is a way to automagically create a new subdirectory (say, with the key as the directory name) when adding a new entry, so that new attached/associated files are then left in that subdirectory. (This helps me keep things self contained, makes syncing the whole library between computers very easy, and allows me to directly use the shell to navigate the library if I cannot for any reason use JabRef). As an example, and since I am afraid I am not being clear here, this is the default behavior of, say, Zotero (which creates random subdirectory names) or one of the possible behaviors of Mendeley (where one can choose among a set of ways of creating the subdirectory names). To be very explicit here: I am not saying that the behavior of Zotero or Mendeley is better or anything. (In fact, JabRef allows me much more flexibility as I am creating the entry). I am just used to that, and I am exploring ways of getting things to work for me.
