Well, after all the suggestions I decided that I would see what it
would take to get biber and biblatex working on Gentoo...
Well, for starters the latest requires perl-5.16.1 (which is still
experimental) and updates to over 160 packages to get it to work. But I
finally did get it to work, but it will be some time before I actually
make this move because it completely breaks my GTD automated tools...
One thing that I had not expected was that biblatex/biber actually did
not deal gracefully with entries which had honest to god unicode
characters in the fields. I had to o in and clean them all out. That
was a good exercise though, and I found and fixed a half dozen problem
entries.
But for now I will have to ignore biblatex/biber for another day.
