On the heals of the M\={a} author name discussion, I found the
Following bibtex entry generates a key with a ':' in it:
@BOOK{Nicolis1989EC:,
title = {Exploring complexity : an introduction},
publisher = {W.H. Freeman},
year = {1989},
author = {Gr\'{e}goire Nicolis and Ilya Prigogine},
address = {New York}
}
I fixed it by making the following change:
@BOOK{Nicolis1989ECI,
title = {Exploring complexity: an introduction},
...
