Hi Morten,
Many thanks for the explanation. This is exactly what I wanted to do !
Frederic Darboux gave me the same explanation in French yesterday
afternoon. I would like to write a message this morning but you were too
fast...
He found the solution in the help of JabRef. Unfortunately, instead of
clicking F1, I read the help on the JabRef website :
http://jabref.sourceforge.net/help/fr/Contents.php but this version is
not updated.
Thank you again
Sophie

*Sujet:* [Jabref-users] Customized entry types with either-or conditions
Hi Mark,
I think you've misunderstood the subject of this message, although the
issue you mention could probably also do with some improvement. As I
understand it, this is regarding the definition of required fields in
customized entry types.
Sophie, you have perhaps already got some help on this issue, but I'll
go through how to define an "volume/number" setup for the benefit of
the mailing list:
1. Choose Options -> Customize entry types to bring up the customization dialog
2. Select "article" in the list to the left of the dialog.
3. Select "volume" in the center list. And click "Remove" below the
list. This removes "volume" as an absolute requirement.
4. Remove "number" from the right list in the same way.
5. Click the white field of the combobox (selector) to the left of the
"Add" button below the center list to get a cursor.
6. Edit the text in the combobox to say "volume/number".
7. Click the "Add" button.
8. Click "Apply" or "Ok" to store the changes.
Now both "volume" and "number" will be seen in the "Required fields"
tab, and entries will require only one of them to be considered
complete.

Hi Sophie,
Made it possible to define customized entry types with either-or
conditions on required fields, e.g. using a pseudo-field called
"author/editor" will indicate that the entry requires either the
"author" or the "editor" field set.
Thanks for point this out. I had totally missed that item in the
changelogs, and it's also not mentioned in the help files. The equivalent
AND version (e.g. "author;editor") does seem to work, so I would consider
it a bug.
One think I'm wondering, why doesn't JabRef use more conventional AND/OR
operators, e.g.
\begin{author | editor}
\begin{author & editor}
I'll have a look at the code tonight, and see if my meagre Java skills can
fix it.
/Mark
