If with "The verify do not make sense to me at all, does any one know I need to
make some config/pom file changes
to make the verify works as desired ? "
You mean not using "clean verify" but something else have a look at the mojo
parameter
[preparationGoals|http://maven.apache.org/plugins/maven-release-plugin/prepare-mojo.html#preparationGoals]
and simply change this to what you want.
If not reopen the issue :-)
