Ok, this got a little too involved. I've hacked too much of maven-artifact out
of the core to make this safe. I'll make a branch and push this issue of until
alpha-2. As soon as I release alpha-1 I'll get this branch working and merge it
to trunk. Oleg, this will probably be the basis of plugging Mercury in as an
option. We'll be able to flip back and forth between the existing
implementation and Mercury.
