Backport of #11733 to maven-3.9.x. Already backported to maven-4.0.x in #13594 and to maven-3.10.x in #13595; this closes the gap on the last remaining active branch. ArtifactMetadata.isError() in maven-compat returned true when there was no error and false when there was one, because the comparison was inverted. maven-3.9.x still had `return error == null;`. The new ArtifactMetadataTest has 5 tests, all fail without the change and pass with it. Ran mvn test, checkstyle:check and spotless:check on maven-compat locally, all green. This is a one-line, already-reviewed fix (identical diff merged twice already), so I'm opening it directly rather than filing an issue first; happy to close if a maintainer prefers to handle 3.9.x backports differently given it's approaching EOL.
