   Closing as already fixed. Since
[402bc64](https://github.com/apache/maven-shared-utils/commit/402bc64)
(MSHARED-610, released in 3.2.0) every write in
[PrettyPrintXMLWriter.java](https://github.com/apache/maven-shared-utils/blob/master/src/main/java/org/apache/maven/shared/utils/xml/PrettyPrintXMLWriter.java)
 is followed by `checkError()` and an `IOException` when the underlying
`PrintWriter` has failed, and the `XMLWriter` methods declare it. What is lost
is the original exception's message, since `PrintWriter` only keeps a flag;
that is inherent to the public `PrintWriter` constructors and not worth
changing in a deprecated package. Reopen with a case where an error goes
unreported.
