The only way you can do this is to override the version of the SCM plugin used by the release plugin AND allow snapshot dependencies. I need to finish off my SCM work and then release the SCM stuff (all of it) and then (re)update the release plugin to use it; it is a two stage process. 1. Release the SCM plugin. 2. Release the Release plugin using the new version of the SCM plugin.
