The problem is most definately within the BidirectionalRepositoryLayout
routines.
It appears that the version id is not correctly identified.
I've made some progress in this regard, but there are still test cases that are
failing.
Check SVN trunk for the commented test cases.
Search for "TODO: Re-enabled in the future."
