We probably need to have a strategy where System properties are not used at all for things like generation directories. The archetype mechanism, for example, doesn't work properly in an embedded environment because it will generate in the directory where the IDE started up. Milos has an idea where we could use something like Checkstyle/PMD to find uses of System.getProperty and eradicated them.
