this seems to be an age old debate and patches seem to keep changing the 
behaviour.

I hate the resources-as-a-library, but I want to research why it was made that 
way and document it once and for all before changing it back. I seem to 
remember it addresses some limitation in using as a source folder as it used to 
be.
