Thanks for the detailed repro and the CherryPickOperation probe — you're right that inferring newness from the refreshed base misses the applied-commit retry case. I'll rework the cleanup check to track the snapshot ID staged by this commit() call and compare against that, and extend the test to cover the retry path.
