### Feature Request / Improvement Follow-up to #1178, per discussion with @laskoviymishka. To pick up after #2102. Not a blocker. The #1178 epic lists driving the CLI against large tables through REST scan planning as one of its goals. Today no CLI command can use remote planning, and adding a flag isn't enough: - `files` walks the manifest lists and manifests directly (`cmd/iceberg/output.go`); it doesn't go through `Scan.PlanFiles`. - `expire-snapshots`, `clean-orphan-files`, `compact` and `rewrite-manifests` need table metadata beyond what a scan returns. **Proposed scope** 1. Decide which commands can be expressed as a scan. `files` (data files of the current snapshot) is the likely candidate; maintenance commands probably aren't. 2. For those commands, pick up the planning mode from #2102's resolved directive, with a `--scan-planning-mode` flag to override it. 3. Document which commands plan remotely and which still read metadata locally. -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service.
