Thanks @Fokko . The knob is a good idea. One thought, with only the knob, the default still loads everything into memory, which is the surprising part. The docs promise one batch at a time, so we'd also need to update the docs to explain the new setting and its memory impact. Combining both could give the best of both worlds.. a safe lazy default, plus a knob for users who want parallel prefetching for throughput.
