Hi, I'd like to work on this issue. I've reviewed the current statistics planning path and the handling of nested fields in compute_statistics_plan. I'd like to implement support for write.metadata.metrics.max-inferred-column-defaults, re-enable the appropriate statistics modes for nested primitive fields, and add regression tests covering nested fields, inferred limits, and explicit per-column overrides.
