Yeah, Option 1 is very situational. But it is quite common case that the
data is freshly written and them quickly merge them.
Option 2 would have much more complex code change and also adding a column
would have some storage overhead.
How about we implement option 1 in this PR and then we can have separate PR
as enhancement with a feature flag?
