ok. I spent some time.
The base code behavior (in `collectStatsForManifest`) of keeping existing
entries is proper. Because when the user calls merge append. It marks old
manifest as delete and creates a new manifest which has existing entries + new
entries. So, we need to consider both. So, for full compute we need to consider
that existing entries. But for incremental compute we should not.
