   I would vote for
   
   **Keep all files visible, but create a much clearer visual distinction for 
non-openable file types.**
   
   That way its more transparent to the user and there is no confusion why 
certain files are not shown.
   
   In addition you could also display the raw content of unsupported files and 
show a hint somewhere that the file type is not supported. That way the user 
still has access to the files even if they use some exotic file types that 
might never be in scope.
