Backport of #8611 to branch-2.6. The cherry-pick applied cleanly. branch-2.6 still uses the pre-HBASE-27231 FSHLog ring buffer path. An exception from `getSyncFuture` there leaves a claimed Disruptor sequence unpublished, and that wedges the WAL permanently. In practice this is an NPE from a corrupted cache in `SyncFutureCache`.
