The fundamental principal behind copyright law will never change.

The moment a work of any kind is created the creator holds the copyright. Only the holder of the copyright can grant use of the work. Only the media and length of copyright changes. Currently, in America that is life of creator + 70 years for works published after 1978.

Copyright law was different one hundred years ago and will be different one hundred years ago from now. Usages changes, and law changes (generally way too late, but still) according to these usages.
