I'm not an expert in this matter either, but from what I understood applications simply had to indicate whether they were compatible with GC - which entailed *not* doing certain *in*compatible things. I'm probably wrong on that point, but perusal of the migration guide (https://developer.apple.com/library/ios/releasenotes/ObjectiveC/RN-TransitioningToARC/Introduction/Introduction.html) seems to confirm my impression that as long as one uses ObjC according to the ARC rules one can simply remove anything GC-related. Reading the note at the bottom of that page, I'd be more concerned about something else: Qt's use of Carbon.
