Hello,

I've been seeing message like the ones below appear in my system.log for a
while now:

Feb 14 21:32:15 Portia.local Assistant[10291]: FIXME: IOUnserialize has
detected a string that is not valid UTF-8, "#W»".
Feb 14 21:32:45 --- last message repeated 191 times ---
Feb 14 21:32:48 Portia.local Assistant[10291]: FIXME: IOUnserialize has
detected a string that is not valid UTF-8, "#W»".
Feb 14 21:32:48 Portia.local Assistant[10291]: FIXME: IOUnserialize has
detected a string that is not valid UTF-8, "#W»".
Feb 14 21:33:18 --- last message repeated 190 times ---

The exact invalid string varies (and isn't always trivial to copy/paste) but it
seems it always has a W in it. Googling hasn't led me to a solution or
explanation, and the IOUnserialize function appears not to be called directly.
I tried setting a breakpoint on it, but no luck there either (no such function).

These messages were due to Qt5 Assistant, but it's not only Qt applications
that cause them. I have a wired internet connection at home, so I turn off
WiFi, but not so at my parents' place last December. That's where I first
noticed the entries, but being produced continuously. Googling then did serve
up a suggestion that this might be CoreWLan related, so on a whim I suppressed
(compressed) the modules in plugins/bearer . Indeed that took care of the
issue; ditto tonight (with the Qt5 bearer plugins).

Is this a known issue? Is the link with the bearer plugins a pure coincidence?

Thanks,
René
