This is my suspicion also. I was able to reproduce the slow startup in a Kubuntu setup. (Un)fortunately I also has started an upgrade to Kubuntu trusty 14.04 at the same time and when I got back to profiling it I couldn't reproduce it anymore. I put a qDebug() output at the start of main() and saw messages from fontconfig appear ~1s after. The errors that I saw wrt fontconfig were gone after the Kubuntu upgrade. Best regards, - Torgeir
