Hi I would also like to know the status of Qt5 with regard to cross flatform desktop application. In particular I keep seeing posts on the mailing list that talk about animations and openGL Drivers.
Here is my main concern, can we do native looking cross platform applications with Qt5 that do not suffer from strange combinations of Graphics hardware. And what is the preferred way of doing such native looking applications in Qt5, qml components, Qtwidgets? I am using Qt 4, and have no particular reason to change, but if I am going to go through the work of this upgrade process, it would seem to make sense to upgrade to the "latest and greatest" version of Qt, unless there is some compelling reason not to. I use Qt for very basic desktop applications. There are a lot of things I am not using (qml, webkit, arthur, and dbus come to mind). I do use qwt (currently version 6.0.1, but I will ask about qwt in particular in a separate post). I am currently using mingw-w64 (one of Ruben's builds), and would stick with that unless there were good reason to change. For what I've been doing I haven't felt that is would be worth the bother to upgrade, but since I'll be rebuilding everything anyway, maybe now is the time. Are there any big hassles I should expect? I don't mind doing some limited porting work, but I wouldn't want to have to deal with major re-writes. Any advice on the Qt 4 --> 5 transition would be greatly appreciated. K.
