Having now looked at that post (sorry I wasn't even aware of this list until a few days ago), I agree. I think you were getting had by the same issues, previously fixed in the old userspace driver 3 years ago.
I also find this very interesting: http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/intel-gfx/2011-February/009378.html However it only deals with video timing of the LVDS output.
