I can confirm that this is the expected behaviour in the default KMS configuration. Whilst there is an option to force the connector to a particular modeline as a boot command line parameter, I would prefer it if this and several of the other automatically detected properties (EDID being the prime example) were connector properties and could be overridden at runtime.
