John,

Good to have you here :)

For you (and Chris, if he's signed up here, and anyone else who might be
working on the EN Inkscape manual at FM), I have been going through the
manual of late and marking chapters as needing to be proofed which need
the most help. They need help both grammatically and stylistically
(with no offense intended to the original authors, several of whom are
native French speakers :) as well as content-wise. Though most of the
important content is there, it could stand to be reorganised and
presented in a more meaningful manner, recalling that much of it was
written in haste during the sprint.

Some things I've noticed and I think most need to be fixed:

redundancy
complicated or obscure explanations
incomplete explanations
redundancy
profuse wordiness in some places
small grammatical errors (especially uses of articles)
redundancy

hmm...did I mention that the text tends to repeat itself sometimes? (I
think I've weeded most of that out, but I know there's still some left).

A few basic rules will be found at the Agreed conventions for writing
this manual
<http://en.flossmanuals.net/bin/view/Inkscape/WritingConventions> link
at the top of the page (ask if you have questions - I plan on improving
and correcting the guide when I can). The main thing to mention is the
text styles we use for ui elements: go ahead and use the styles
described in the conventions, don't worry about the nifty div box
styling, as these are being either obsoleted or transformed into
something different. We are still working that out.

That's enough for now, or I'd continue all day :)

JF
