Craig,
Well, I dont want that, so I will just use my local folders to do that.
I did not know that about imap.

If you create the folder as a sub-folder of INBOX then it would
necessarily be on the server.
I think you need to get your head into the IMAP protocol and how it
works and why it works.
POP3 grabs your email from server and puts it into local folders and you
simply organize locally. Typically, the email is removed from the POP
server after it is downloaded but there are suicidal options in most
clients including Thunderbird to leave the mail on the server.
IMAP the mail always stays on the server and most clients 'cache' a copy
locally.

Craig,
Would that folder then be created on the imap server, or on my local
machine. I do not want my Imap server to house all the local folders.

I have a created and ssl imap server and it works great.
The mail reader which I am using is mozilla mail, which I like,
mainly becuase I am familiar with it.
I also have another pop account which is managed by my internet
provider. Why can I create local folders under the pop account and
not on the imap/ssl account. I would really like to create
local folders under the imap/ssl account.

folders MUST be created under INBOX unless you use altnamespace which is
a mistake to use in my opinion.
Just create INBOX.new_folder
