I know it's been said before and I betray my utter ignorance of how it all hangs together but...

I've inherited the set-up of a new server which has Cyrus installed, but I doubt ever running.

I followed some (admittedly old) instructions & got as far as setting up two mailboxes with cyradm. Couldn't use 'em because the DNS for the mail server was wrong.

Someone restarted the services.. and now my original mailboxes seem to have vanished & I get "Permission Denied" trying to create any new mailbox (I can run "su - cyrus", then "cyradm localhost" & login without problems)

We are trying to run a default domain & 3 sub-domains, as we want email addresses of the format [EMAIL PROTECTED] & [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I have virtdomains set, I have Apache servicing the corresponding web pages.

If I try something list cm [EMAIL PROTECTED] I get "Invalid Mailbox" (I tried setting the unix hierarchy flag & using / but still no go).

ok, I've probably not said enough about the environment. It's Red Hat enterprise, fairly much straight out of the box. I can see lots of advice, but it all assumes you are starting from point X (or Y or W or...) nothing that I can say "ok, don't know where the other fellow finished, Cyrus is installed, but how can I configure it from scratch". I don't need (I hope) to recompile everything, I can verify a login for Cyrus admin, but I can't even create a mailbox.

Is there a proper idiots' guide to Cyrus?

Chris
